Milky Mist Commissions 10 MW Solar Plant, Achieves 100% Renewable Energy Self-Sufficiency

Milky Mist Dairy Food Limited has commissioned a new 10 MW solar power plant at Arasanoor, Tamil Nadu, taking its total renewable energy generation capacity to approximately 41 MW.

With the commissioning of the new facility, renewable energy sources now meet the company’s total power requirements across its operations. The new plant is in addition to an existing 15 MW solar facility at Arasanoor, taking the total solar capacity at the location to 25 MW.

Milky Mist has invested approximately ₹109.60 crore in the 25 MW solar capacity at Arasanoor. The company’s overall renewable energy portfolio comprises 25 MW of solar at Arasanoor, 9 MW at Kavilipalayam, 5 MW at Chithode and 2 MW of wind capacity at Kayathar.

The 25 MW Arasanoor facility is expected to generate around 2 million units of renewable electricity annually. The power will support the company’s integrated manufacturing facility at Perundurai and its milk chilling centres across multiple locations.

The additional renewable capacity is expected to reduce the company’s dependence on conventional power sources and help avoid approximately 16,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

Milky Mist has been investing in renewable energy since 2016. Its cumulative investment in renewable energy generation plants has reached nearly ₹197 crore, with the company reporting approximately 210 million units of electricity generated to date.

Beyond solar and wind, the company has also deployed steam turbine technology and a methane gas purification plant that generates around 15,000 units of electricity per day. Methane generated through its effluent treatment operations is purified and converted into compressed natural gas (CNG), while biomass is used for boiler operations.

T. Sathish Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director, Milky Mist Dairy Food Limited, said the company’s renewable energy investments are part of its long-term approach towards resource efficiency, energy self-sufficiency and more sustainable manufacturing practices.

The latest solar project further strengthens Milky Mist’s renewable energy portfolio and marks a significant step in its efforts to meet its operational electricity requirements through renewable sources.
