SPML Infra’s 104.4 kWh BESS Battery Pack Clears Global Certification Tests

SPML Infra Limited has achieved a significant milestone in its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) technology journey, with its proprietary 104.4 kWh battery pack successfully completing key international safety, performance and transportation certification and testing requirements.

Developed under SPML Infra’s own intellectual property, the battery pack has successfully completed requirements under UL9540A, IEC 62619, IEC 63056, IEC 60730, IEC 61000-6-2 and IEC 61000-6-4, along with UN38.3 testing at both the battery-pack and system levels. These standards cover critical aspects including thermal runaway safety, battery performance, functional safety, electromagnetic compatibility and transportation safety.

The certification milestone is expected to support SPML Infra’s move towards the commercial deployment of its BESS technology. The company is developing indigenous energy storage and manufacturing capabilities to address the growing requirements of India’s utility-scale energy storage market.

SPML Infra is establishing BESS manufacturing and integration capabilities in Pune, Maharashtra, covering battery-pack assembly, engineering, system integration and large-scale project execution. The company aims to progressively strengthen its in-house technology and manufacturing capabilities for battery energy storage products.

Commenting on the development, Abhinandan Sethi, Managing Director, SPML Infra Limited, said the validation of the proprietary 104.4 kWh battery pack represents an important milestone in the company’s energy storage journey. He highlighted that SPML is developing technology and engineering capabilities internally rather than limiting its role to manufacturing or project execution.

The company views BESS as a strategic extension of its established power infrastructure capabilities and an important pillar of its future growth. With the completion of the certification and testing requirements, SPML Infra is moving another step closer to commercialising its BESS technology and expanding its energy storage portfolio for India’s evolving power infrastructure.
